April Book: The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

http://amzn.to/1lHbMfY "The Goldfinch is a rarity that comes along perhaps half a dozen times per decade, a smartly written literary novel that connects with the heart as well as the mind....Donna Tartt has delivered an extraordinary work of fiction."--Stephen King, The New York Times Book Review

Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his longing for his mother, he clings to the one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love-and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle.

Excellent writing for word choice, sentences, paragraphs offset by a too long story that did not keep my interest.

Sorry, but some last minute family obligations forced a change in my plans. However, I am very interested in what others thought of the book....see you next month.

After Elle's kind words about Cabin Fever, I will bring some copies to the meeting if anyone wants a signed copy. This will be Jan and my last meeting until we return in November. Look forward to seeing everyone on Friday (and finishing the book before then). ~ Jim

Hey everyone! We're going to go back to Dubs and start a smidge earlier (6:30pm) than usual. There is a band at 8pm (not a super well known one that I could tell) so this should work out for us. We'll be (hopefully) in the same area as we were last time but we'll try to work out a better set up. Email to come!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
