We'll head out to Barren River State Park on the 16th to do a little afternoon hiking and see if the Sandhill Cranes that overwinter on lake are in their roosting area. There may be some eagles around also.
Meeting time: 12:30PM in the Fairview Plaza (we should get to the state park lodge at 1:15)
Hike Distance: <5 miles
Estimated Hike Time: 3 hours
Difficulty: moderate (the hike is split into a one mile dirt path, then a section of paved walking trail, then the 1.2 mile dirt path Peter's Creek Trail, then finishing up on the paved path back to the cars - this is a good hike for beginners who can always cut the hike short by just doing a few sections before heading back to the cars)
Well behaved dogs are welcome
We'll meet up at 12:30PM in the Fairview Plaza parking lot and head east to the lake. We'll get to the BRSP lodge at about 1:15 to reassemble before heading out to the trail. Barren River SP has a 1-mile nature trail, 0.5-mile nature/historical trail and a 2.5-mile paved bike/hike path. We will also check out the new trail (Peter's Creek Trail) on the north end of the park that goes by the Sandhill Crane roosting area.
