Car Camping At Big South Fork

Car Camping At Big South Fork
Two Nights At Bandy Creek Campgrounds
Dates - September 10th and 11th. Carpooling and directions:
For those of you that use mapquest or your gps, Bandy Creek Headquarters address is 4564 Leatherwood Road, Oneida, Tn 37841. The campgrounds are just across the river from there. Mileage to the campground from Bowling Green is approximately 140 miles and 160 miles from Murfreesboro.
As for car pooling, I can’t be much help in the Bowling Green area, but should there be anyone in the Murfreesboro area going, I will have room for one person and gear. Shoot me an e-mail if you are interested. If you want to carpool from Bowling Green, post a message on the comments board. If you find you need more gear, I do have some extra I will make available.
Bandy Creek headquarters phone # is[masked] and my cell # will be available to anyone with a yes RSVP if you need more info. Sorry, I don’t know about cell service in the campground area.

Hiking opportunities:

There are a couple of short hikes that take off from the visitor center area for those arriving early enough on Friday. Starting one of those hikes at 3:00pm will put us back in camp around 4:30 pm and in time to greet the later arrivals.
Saturday mornings hike will be the easy to moderate 5.9 mile John Litton Farm Loop. Starting at 8:30am and will put us back in camp at noon with time for a relaxing lunch and a little rest before starting the easy 3.6 mile Oscar Blevins farm loop at 2:30pm. We should be back in camp around 5:pm and ready for a fun cookout and visiting at the camp fire Saturday evening.
For those that would like to do a Sunday morning hike, starting the easy 2.3 mile Bandy Creek Campground Loop at 9:00am will have us back in camp around 10:30am and ready to start packing up for the trip home.
Total mileage for all but any Friday hikes is approximately 12 miles with a total hiking time of approximately 7.5 - 8.0 hours, a pace everyone will be able to do, allowing plenty of time to actually see the trails we are hiking and record our trip with lots of great pictures.

We had a great time in spite of the rain. Some beautiful hiking and great camping facilities.

Three stars for the meetup, due to all the rain, but another five stars for the campers in our group. We had to cancel the longest of the three planned hikes, but everyone made the best of the hiking we were able to get in and had a great time together setting out the heavier rains in camp. I don't think I would changed anything about the way this meetup turned out even if it could have been changed. Great weekend!!!!!

Hello Angelia, Regina and I are going to try to get over there early enough, around tenish, to do the Twin Arches Trail near Pickett Park before setting up camp at noon. Wish you could be there to do that one also. I highly recommend this retirement thing as soon as you can. Look forward to seeing you and your call.

Hey everyone, don't forget, pack your cameras early. There's so much great scenery in BSF in the relatively small area we'll be hiking, you'll not want to be without them.
