Let try one more time to make it to Mammoth Cave to check out the short trails. We'll be hiking Cedar Sink (2.2 Miles), Turnhole Bend Nature trail (0.5 miles), Sloan's Crossing Pond Walk (0.4 miles), and Echo River Spring Trail (2.2 miles).

Hike Stats

Meeting time: 8 AM
Hike Distance: 5.3 miles for all 4 segments
Estimated Hike Time: 4 hours
Difficulty: moderate

Well behaved dogs are welcome - Mammoth Cave has a strict leash law

People traveling from Bowling Green can meet up in the Fairview Shopping Center Parking lot at 8PM to Carpool/ caravan up to Mammoth Cave National Park.

At 9AM, we will meet up at the parking area for the Cedar Sink Trail on route 422 (37 09' 17.92"N, 86 09' 38.45"W). After hiking the trail we'll head north and check out the 0.5 mile Turnhole Bend Nature Trial and it's overlook of the Green River above a huge bluehole next to the River. Next we'll head east to the Sloan's Crossing Pond and do the short trail around the pond including the elevated walkways that extend over the pond. We'll end up down at the Echo River Spring Trail where we'll visit Echo River Spring and River Styx Spring.

This will be a great trip for beginners or people who haven't been hiking in a while. Only Cedar Sink has many hills, the other 3 are rated as "Easy". Be sure to wear appropriate cloths and boots with good ankle support if you have them. Many of these areas are well maintained trails buts there will also be some less manicured areas on the Cedar Sink Trail. Bring plenty of water and lunch.

If you know you will be meeting up with the group at the park, please let me know so we'll know not to wait on you at the shopping center.

I had a lot of fun on this hike. It was great to finally going on a hike that was longer to get to know people better and to see some of the great places near Bowling Green, since I had only been on one after-work hike so far. I actually can't wait to go back to some of the trails at Mammoth Cave and excited to show family and friends where they are and take them on a hike.

Love the short trails, and the different scenery on each trail made it more interesting than one loooooong trail. Had lots of fun, and everyone is so friendly. The deer on Echo trail were beautiful. I should take my camera and get some pics of those owls as well. :)

It takes me about an hour from the stadium to Bowling Green. When you get to BG, take exit 26 and turn left. The Fairview Plaza shopping center is about 2 miles down the road. You'll go through 4 lights and pass a cemetery, the plaza will be on the left just before you hit a big intersection with 31-W.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
