Announcing a new Meetup for Bowling Green Hiking Meetup!

What: Shanty Hollow Lake - Saturday afternoon hike

When: Saturday, October 23,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Shanty Hollow Lake
Shanty Hollow Rd
Warren, KY 42101

Come out and join us for a Saturday afternoon hike at Shanty Hollow Lake! This beautiful area offers some of the best, local hiking this side of Kentucky, especially in the fall! By the end of October the air should be cool and crisp and the leaves should be at their most vibrant colors. We'll spend the afternoon hiking, enjoying the scenery and of course taking advantage of all the photo opportunities along the way! This is meant to be a laid back, "take your time" hike, so this meetup would be great for beginners and newcomers to the group! As with this time of year, daylight may start to wane before heading back to the trailhead so flashlights may be a good idea to bring along just in case we need a little extra light. It goes without saying to bring a nice, warm jacket and plenty of water.

To relax and continue the fun after the hike let's plan on going to El Mazatlan Mexican restaurant (conveniently located in the Fairview Plaza Shopping Center). Feel free to join us for a beer, maybe grab some dinner or eat some chips and just hang out!!

Hike Stats

Meeting time: 1:30 P.M. at Fairview to carpool or 2:00 P.M. at the shanty hollow trailhead
Hike Distance: about 2 miles
Estimated Hike Time: Allow at least 2 hrs since we will be taking our time.
Difficulty: Moderate because there is a bit of elevation change but this is a great hike for beginners and those looking to hone their hiking skills.

Well behaved dogs are welcome.

To get to Shanty Hollow Lake, go north on 185 about 11.5 miles from Bowling Green and take a right on 1749. Once on 1749, stay straight (route 1749 turns to the left) and it becomes Lake Road. Take a left onto Shanty Hollow Road (The first left). Stay straight on this road for about 1 mile and eventually you'll run into the lake. The trailhead parking is above the boat ramp parking.

The map on this site shows a back road way to get there but if you want to stay on well maintained, paved roads, follow my directions.
