Neurocinema: "The Perfect Sense" and "The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"

  • August 13, 2013 · 7:00 PM

In my view, these films are cinematic Sci-fi masterpieces (no zombies and extraterrestrial creatures!), depicting love (our most esoteric and yet material feeling), when it is faced with erosion of our sensory/memory systems.

I need a volunteer host!

Unfortunately, I will be out of the country; but would love to know if you have watched and how you discussed them. I will try to write about them, if time permits. Naj

Good point. Let's wait till Naj comes back. Only other choice was to watch the films via transendental meditation, and then have a group discussion over Skype. LOL

I actually did ask what she was looking for in a volunteer but received no response. I have a vague idea of a suggestion that people watch it, somehow, themselves. It was nebulous. There is no indication of this suggestion on the current page. I wonder if this is a meetup problem - that communication is not where it needs to be for people to have clear understanding of what is oing on.

My understanding is that Naj had suggested we each watch the films in our own time and meet up last night to discuss. I personally felt it best to wait 'til her return before having the discussion as I value her input. The reason there was no venue posted is because none of us volunteered to host the discussion :-)

There seems to be a lack of communication. At one point, I thought it was suggested that the films could be watched on line? Or elsewhere. Naj says "I need a volunteer host" but no venue is posted and no host is noted. In any case, I made no effort to see films that are said to be sci-fi, romantic... What is next? Where did my earlier post about Brain on Fire go? Does anyone know how this site works?

Hi there, wonder if any of you got a chance to watch the film. Greetings from afar!

Still no location? If I don't hear of one then I am out.

unfortunately something urgent has come up for me and I can't attend. The movies look very interesting, I will try to view them otherwise.

Okay, so Naj is not thrilled with my suggestion of what's on the CBC. So, let's try something on PBS. There is a program on Fridays at 7:30am and 1:30pm called Closer To Truth. It is hosted by Dr.Laurence Kuhn of Harvard. He discusses topic

Having googled these, they do not sound like something for me. My brain is having enough trouble without sci fi.

I really think they are worth watching; and we can always discuss them here on the forum. I promise to chime in!
