What about your brain fascinates you most?

How it produces consciousness, and how it actually goes about performing abstractions and finding patterns in the world, etc.

We explore brain health, physiology, psychology, medicine, consciousness, metaphysics and physics. What areas are you most interested in?

Consciousness, metaphysics, and physics. In particular, I'm interested in the philosophy of mind, and its connections to the philosophy of physics, and the general fields of epistemology and metaphysics. Questions concerning free will, the nature of the self, the origin of consciousness, and the possibility of creating new conscious entities that exist in alternative substrates (i.e. computers or other artificial/non-biological structures). I also am interested in neuroscience, but only as a layman. I don't have an overriding passion for the subject.

What do you want to learn about through our meetups?

I'm a graduate student in physics at USC. I'm generally interested in geeky things. I also enjoy philosophy a great deal more than your average physicist.
