This is Part 3 of a 6 part series. Meetups for this series will be every second Friday of the month through December, in the evenings at 7pm.
Dr. Daniel J. Siegel's book with Mary Hartzell, M.Ed., Parenting from the Inside Out: How a Deeper Self-Understanding Can Help You Raise Children Who Thrive, explores the application of this newly emerging view of the mind, the brain, and human relationships:
How many parents have found themselves thinking: I can't believe I just said to my child the very thing my parents used to say to me! Am I just destined to repeat the mistakes of my parents? In Parenting from the Inside Out, child psychiatrist Daniel J. Siegel, M.D., and early childhood expert Mary Hartzell, M.Ed., explore the extent to which our childhood experiences actually do shape the way we parent. Drawing upon stunning new findings in neurobiology and attachment research, they explain how interpersonal relationships directly impact the development of the brain, and offer parents a step-by-step approach to forming a deeper understanding of their own life stories, which will help them raise compassionate and resilient children.
Born out of a series of parents' workshops that combined Siegel's cutting-edge research on how communication impacts brain development with Hartzell's thirty years of experience as a child-development specialist and parent educator, Parenting from the Inside Out guides parents through creating the necessary foundations for loving and secure relationships with their children. http://drdansiegel.com/?page=books&sub=parenting_from_the_inside_out
Steven Kassell, Marriage and Family Therapist, a member of our group, will be hosting this monthly series:
?We will watch a DVD lecture of Dr. Siegel discussing concepts from his book, then have our own discussion and digest this new knowledge. Siegel, the father of Interpersonal Neuropsychology and MindSight, and a leading researcher in the area of child development, has amazing things to say and teach us about how to raise healthy children.?
Lessons will include a DVD viewing which lasts approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours with discussion to follow. It is not necessary to attend previous Lessons in this Series to participate in current ones; all are welcome.
Feel free to bring a sandwich or something to eat since the meetup will last at least a couple of hours.
We will be joining the Southern California Mental Health Professionals Meetup group for this series.
