Bookcliff Vineyards Wine Tasting

BookCliff Vineyards is located in the Vinelands, a region east of Palisade, Colorado, where grapes were grown at the turn of the century. Situated just west of DeBeque Canyon, across from the Colorado River and underneath the BookCliff escarpment, our vineyards benefit from evening winds that prevent frost and provide moderate growing temperatures.

In 1995 we bought ten acres of peach orchard, six of which we converted into vineyard in the spring of 1996 planting three acres of Chardonnay, 1.5 acres of Merlot, 1.5 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and one row of Black Muscat.

The first three years we did most of the vineyard work ourselves, working our full-time jobs as engineers during the week and tending to the vineyard on weekends where we stayed in a camper trailer parked among the peaches. It was important to us to be hands-on doing the labor ourselves from planting the vines, pruning, and vineyard maintenance during the season all the way to the harvest.

Over the years we purchased additional acreage owning and leasing 33 acres all located in the Vinelands region. By now we have planted ten different grape varieties always on the look out for something new to try with Tempranillo and Graziano being on the short list.

In 1999 we opened the doors of our winery after we received federal approval to license the basement of our house as a winery. We started small, bottling, corking and labeling each bottled by hand with the help of friends. In the meantime our production is reaching 3,000 cases and in 2008 we moved the winery into a commercial, leased space where you can visit the tasting room and tour the winery.

To find us, look for familiar faces or call cell [masked]. We should be easy to spot though.
