This is a running group for anyone interested in dropping by for a free group run. Running in a group is a great way to meet new people and get inspired by others who share similar fitness goals. You should join this meetup if you are interested in improving your fitness, trying to lose weight, or needing base miles for an upcoming race. We will run on or near the Brays Bayou Hike and Bike trail and will cater to those who live in the Rice, Med Center or Herman Park area. Our runs will start in different places in those three areas.
The group is aimed at novice runners or runners that would prefer the run-walk technique inspired by Jeff Galloway. However, runners of all levels are welcomed to join and pair up with someone your level before you start. We hope to have a wide range of runners from 7min per mile pace to 15 min per mile pace.
All of our runs will have a set course and folks can add or subtract to the mileage as they please. Prior to heading out I will try to tally the group to see what paces folks would like to run and then try to pair people up in smaller splinter groups using the buddy system. A garmin watch is highly recommended if you have one so you know when to turn back.
We will also have designed routes on the weekends for folks running half marathons. A typical workout will include 10 minutes of warmup, a 3-6 mile jog/run and some stretching after. On the weekends, we will run 6-12 miles. The organizer will have a plan for fluids for each run. To start we recommend that you be able to run at least a mile straight. If you can run a mile straight then you should be able to handle 3 miles with the run walk method fairly easily. We can vary the walk breaks from 2mins run -1min walk...etc. For those who run faster than 9-12 mins/mile, you can still join us and just run ahead and run back after we make the turn.
Looking forward to burning up miles with new friends.
