4/4/14 LIVE Brazilian w/ Alma Tropicalia + Forro Dancers @ Black Cat & more!!

On Friday April 4th Alma Tropicália will open (along with Backbeat Underground) for Afropop Band, Elikeh, at the Black Cat in DC! This is going to be a huge Global Underground Dance Party!!!! Advance tickets $12, day of $15, show starts 10pm!

Further to this concept, Alma Tropicalia will feature top Forró Dancers in their set - featuring moves you could learn every Sunday at Brazilian Dance Class - Forró & Samba de Gafieira AND in a pop-up Forró Workshop taking place the following day, Saturday, April 5th!

Alma Tropicália - Alma Tropicália is a rock band from Washington DC that reimagines the psych-samba sounds of 60’s tropicália music from Brazil, a mind-bending mix of tropical rhythms, soulful funk grooves and day-glo psychedelia that has quickly earned the group ecstatic reviews and packed performances across the region. The band's daring lineup combines the masterful Brazilian jazz vocalist Elin (featured on Thievery Corporation’s upcoming album “Saudade”) with the unhinged experimentation of some of the top sidemen in today’s rock and world music scene (featuring members of Cyro Baptista’s Beat the Donkey, Bio Ritmo, and more). Alma Tropicália has performed at prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Center, the Strathmore, the Howard Theatre, and Nublu, and has opened for top acts including Brazilian legend Jorge Ben Jor, Freshlyground, and Fitz and the Tantrums.

Elikeh - "Elikeh always gets the crowd moving with its enthusiastic shows."- The Washington Post

"The group blends various styles of west-african styles — afrobeat, highlife, soukous — into a tight, forward moving sound that keeps one foot in the past and another towards the future." -Afropop Worldwide

Backbeat Underground- Born out of a love for the classic funk & soul greats like James Brown, Grant Green, and The Meters as well as newer artists Soulive, Lettuce, and The New Mastersounds, Backbeat Underground is a hot new addition to DC's funk scene.
