I'd like to welcome all the many members who have joined the meet up this past two weeks. I am very excited to get to get to know each and everyone one of you. As the world cup approaches, it will be fun to get together and support our team even if from far away.
I have already scheduled a meet-up for the not-in-the-middle-of-the-week game, but there might be some changes to that. We might join another group or Brazilian at a different location but we are still considering that.
As I like to do once a year, I'd like to remind everyone that this meet-up group is organized by volunteers, people that have lives, families, jobs, but who every now and then find some spare time to organize an event to hang-out with Brazilians or just other individuals interested in Brazil in general. The events are 100% non-profit, and we try our best to promote events that everyone (individuals with and without an income) can afford to attend.
It goes without saying that the more fun, interesting people volunteer to organize events, the more events we will have that the richer the breadth of events we offer will be. So, if you are a fun person and have the time, please volunteer!
I would also like to remind everyone that politeness, respect, an up-lifting mood and sometimes patience is a must to make this a successful group. I will not tolerate any type of brat-behavior from anyone in the group. Everyone is welcome to express their opinions/suggestions/comments/complaints, as long as it is done with politeness and respect to all members of the group. I would much rather organize a smaller group of people that are active and that gets along well than a massive number of unruly peeps! But that's just me.
Finally, as many of you know, I'm trying t give birth to this endless dissertation I've been working on forevA, so I'm very very busy working 12-14h days Monday through Sat, so sometimes it takes me a while to get to your emails. To make things worse, the email account that forwards all messages from the group to my personal email got messed up and I didn't have a chance to fix it till a couple of days ago, so I have a week's worth of email to go over. I'm responding to them all, so please be patient. If it is urgent, send another one and express your urgency so I can prioritize better.
This is me for now. Thank you so much for being part of the group. Your participation at the events is very much appreciated. Now go out there and enjoy this beautiful day. It's finally Summer in Chicago, folks!
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
