Have you ever taken a sabbatical, career break or extended trip? If yes, tell us about it!

Yes, 4! 2008/09—The Great Escape: 69 days in the West Indies 2000/01—The RTW Tour: 18 weeks in Italy, Malaysia, New Zealand 1994—The Fantasy Trip: 1 year in the Virgin Islands & Europe 1990—The Sanity Break: 7 months in the Midwest & Europe

If you haven't, what obstacles have gotten in the way?

Anybody who wants to BreakAway will need to overcome what I call the Big Buts: money, stuff, mortgages, commitments, kids, jobs, etc. etc. etc. These are all valid impediments. And ALL very surmountable.

What would be your ideal, dream getaway?

Thinking the next big trip will be a family pilgrimage to Scandinavia. Or a rambling adventure in South America.

Hi. I’m Kirk. Over the past 20 years, I've taken 4 breaks ranging from 69 to 355 days, in spots spanning from Norway to New Zealand. When I'm not roaming, I teach advertising & writing and preach the gospel of sabbaticals atm.

What Kirk H. is saying about this Meetup Group

I may be biased, but I think it's a great bunch of people. Lots of hearty smiles, animated conversations, and excellent connections.
