This will be a great opportunity to address these folks at a local venue and to have those that can't make it to Tallahassee to lobby for "our" causes. Plan on presenting/lobbying for our issues (2nd Amendment, Red Light Cameras, Common Core, etc.) in front of the Brevard legislative Delegation members. Let us use this as an opportunity to get different faces in front of these legislatures than always the same people they see all the time. Remember, strength in numbers!
Don't you think the progressives/liberals are going to be there in force? They will be. I have been to one of these before. It is mostly a parade of people and organizations with their hands out looking for money from the state. It is pretty disgusting. But these people get what they want because they take the time to prepare and then show up.
Pick an issue. Go to the state web-site and get the House and Senate Bill Numbers. Copy the bill to a word or works document that you can high-light or make notes on. Type out your own introduction. State your position and the reason why THE LEGISLATOR should follow your position (i.e. it will create jobs, help the economy, protect your property rights , comply with the Constitution, get the politician your support and your vote , etc.). Print out a copy of the bill and your position paper and make seven (7) copies (one for each member of the delegation, and keep the original for yourself). Make a three to five minute speech on this topic and practice giving it in front the mirror or somebody else, so that you can fill out a speakers card and talk your points at the meeting without fear of messing up.
I hope as many of "our people" as possible can be there. If we can demonstrate we are intelligent and organized, we can make a bigger, positive impact. Let show the Brevard County Legislative Delegation we are a force to be reckoned with and that they would rather have us on their side, than working for their opponent in the next election!
