"Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn

Marriage can be a real killer. One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn, takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. As The Washington Post proclaimed, her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit with deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick Dunne’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick Dunne isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but hearing from Amy through flashbacks in her diary reveal the perky perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer? As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister Margo at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was left in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

Employing her trademark razor-sharp writing and assured psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

I was optimistic that I'd be able to finish the book in time for tonight's meet-up but alas, I have not :( I look forward to (hopefully!) meeting you all next time. Until then....

I haven't read the book "Gone Girl" so I realized it would be nice to meet all of you, but probably better if I know the next book and come to the next meet. Would someone please let me know what the next book is, if it's not posted on the page? TY

Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to start this book yet, but I do still plan on reading as I have heard it is great!

I am about half way through the book, can't make the meeting, and at this point have no sympathy for Nick. Seems like a wimp as well as a jerk, but this could change before the end of the book. I challenge the term "unputdownable". I put it down several times, but kept picking it back up. The term "perky perfectionist" does apply to Amy.

Will we be splitting into smaller groups to discuss the book? This will be my first one where we actually have discussion I think and am curious how this works when the numbers are so high.

good to know... I have to start reading soon. I'm sorry the group didn't get to converse about the book like our usual meet up routine as you mentioned in your write up for last meeting. I didn't know Theresa had set up the skype. The chairs were already arranged when I got there. The conversation with the Author was long and I felt that it would be to much to have additional questions after the author when the seats were not even set up to have a group discussion. I apologize. I appreciated the members efforts and really enjoyed listening to the outgoing personality of the author and her way of writing her novels. If there is next time of having an author Skype.. we can all come with questions prepared for the author and have a group discussion.

I hope to see you there Rebecca, have you started the book? I heard it was a page turner. We will be set up in the far right of the store near the magazine rack... we will be sitting in folding chairs.
