Conversation was a bit dominated by one person. Should we suggest a time limit for each person's comment?

I don't think so.. Sometimes discussions have to be redirected because things get off topic; however, often some people have more to say because they are attached to a book for various reasons. I don't want to limit anyone wanting to share a personal experience especially when it's related to the book discussion.

You don't have to be the moderator in order to say "Excuse me, but I'd like to get on with it," you know.

It was interesting hearing the different views of the same book, after all isn't that what makes a good book. It starts a conversation

A great discussion where everyone's point of view was respected on what could be a controversial topic. Thanks to everyone for making this newcomer feel welcome.

The discussion was well organized, and all participants acted courteously towards others, respecting their opinions and not trying to dominate the discussion. We were able to stay on track and discuss the book, with side issues that related to the subject matter of the book.

It was a good dosage of humanity and an explicit interaction between science and spirituality. Believe it or not it's up to each one of us, that is what freedom it's all about.

Thank you Melanie for mentioning the article. It brilliantly describes the thought I had reading the book; I must admit, I only put up with about one third of it. It made me laugh and yet worry at the same time that there would be people believing in this tale. But, maybe they need to cling onto something, anything - could it be called "hope"?

I do not appreciate beIng subjected to foul language in the comments at this site. Its use is disrespectful.

Looking at Wendy's comment about club members being intellectuals, I'm not certain that I will fit in. I are just a dumb enginer.

I think you might be related to my husband :) I promise you will feel welcomed. We have a great group of avid, well traveled readers.

I would like to remind EVERYONE that this is a book club discussion not a debate club. I stand firm about all of the attendees being able to express their opinions and share experiences. No one will be allowed to preach or be attacked for their beliefs (religious or otherwise). Everyone expresses themselves in a fair manner at every book meeting. It just so happens that the book selected is "Proof of Heaven" which is about after-life experiences told by a neurosurgeon. We will continue to give opinions as we do every other meet up; however, due to the sensitive material, I just want to remind all members that we are not going to debate each others belief systems! We are adults and if anyone can not handle the book topic - then do not attend! I'm.assuming everyone is an adult and can honestly decide on their own if they want to discuss a book.

Is this a religious book club or is this just one choice among a diverse selection?

    January 13, 2014

    • Ingrid S.

It is not a religious book, it is an author's opinion. We all have different views/opinions - we just don't sit down and write a book about them. It was a choice from suggestions of the book club members. The previous book selections reflect the diversity of the members, neither religion or politics have entered the discussions.

That is what I thought; thanks for confirming! See you next week.

The author's "proof" is rather thin. This will be a good occasion for non-believers to express their views on fact compared to belief.

    See you soon.
