Oblivion @ Brighton Marina (Science Fiction blockbuster for Orange Wednesday)

After the timeless brilliance of The Secret In Their Eyes (with thanks to Hayley for putting this on), it's time for a rare Marina trip to slum it in multiplex mayhem. No reviews available for this one yet, so we only have the trailer (here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1483013/) to go on - which makes it look like an amalgamation of non-animated Wall-E and the Matrix Reloaded - hopefully more of the former and less of the latter. I'm always a sucker for sci-fi, especially if it looks as if there might be a slightly cerebral element to it...and on a more carnal level, 2 hours spent oggling Olga Kurylenko (last seen twirling and pirouetting her way thru To The Wonder) - what's not to like? For those who prefer their cinematic eye candy of the male variety, you get Tom Cruise. Hopefully the film might make up for that particular disappointment.

Speaking of fair deals tho, this is another Orange Wednesday piece of scheduling, which means half price cinema tickets and half price pizza beforehand - yay! Because its both Orange Weds AND the opening night for this film in the UK, it's very likely to sell out, so here's Mike's plunning can...

We meet in the Cineworld foyer at 6pm sharp, with Orange text codes (don 't have one? see below) at the ready, to snaffle 2 for 1 tickets to the 8pm screening - thereby avoiding the ticket queues nearer the time. Then we retire to the nearby Pizza Express to use same text codes for our 2 for 1 pizzas. Suitably satiated, we head back over to the cinema at about 20 to 8 to grab decent seats. Sounds like a good plan, eh?

Can't get there for 6? Then come find us in Pizza Express BEFORE buying your ticket, and we'll team you up with anyone who still has a spare Orange code

Not on Orange? You've 4 choices;
1 - Don't come - unacceptable option. Pick this option and we'll send Tom round to shoot you with his laser gun, once he's done romping with Olga
2 - Pay full price - bad option. Instead, spend your spare cash on a jumbo bag of Minstrels to share with your fellow meet uppers. You will get much love in return.
3 - Rely on the benevolence of other orange meet uppers who might have a spare code - better but slightly risky option.
4 - Go buy an Orange SIM card for a quid in Poundland, zap it into your existing mobile and text 'Film' to 241 - cheap Wednesday cinema and pizza forever more - the smart option :-)

      hi mike,unfortunately the topping up facility was 'down ' at orange and a job i'm on is taking longer. I'm guessing its gonna be busy at the cinema so arriving later may not be so good. Another time- have an enjoyable evening :-)

    I think I'll have to also depend on some ones good will too. I haven't organized an orange sim and don't think I'm going to get one now. So I'm hoping there are spare ones

    Hoping to come
    Bought the Ornge SIM but won't send text - 'emergency calls only'. Am I right in thinking I will need to buy some credit to send the text?

      Yep, see my other reply....

    Well I put it in my old phone and I think I may be successful. Amongst the info back came a 4 digit I.D Code. Is that what I was needing? No response to my 'film' text as yet, so now not so sure...

    • Mike

      Er, no, you're right Chris, I forgot that bit of the process - you do need to load some credit onto the SIM, I think £5 is the minimum; each text then costs 35p, so you get just over 14 half price trips to the cinema for your fiver. They should ping you back an 8-digit number when you text 'film' to 241. Still a bargain though - six quid outlay saved in the first evening if you eat pizza and go to cinema ;-) You coming tonight?
