FREE showing of Cohen Brothers' brilliant 'Fargo' at the WSL

Are you up for some dastardly deeds in deepest snowy North Dakota "based on a true story" ? You betcha! With their characteristic mix of black humour, violence and moral ambiguity, the Cohen Brothers serve up a rich mix here brimming with brilliant performances. From William H Macy's twitchy, guilt-ridden husband, to Peter Stormare and Steve Buscemi's inept and violent henchmen, to Francis MacDormand's luminous turn as police office Marg Gunerson, all pitched perfectly and set against a desolate snowy backdrop. Fargo has much to recommend it. Come and see it in the comfort of the West Street Loft - real cinema seats from the Duke of Yorks, really lovely candle lit atmosphere, great food, people and bar. You'll get a warm welcome !

Fargo is a classic so will be a good ice breaker for my first time attending one of the meetings, see you all there!

Thus far I've seen and uniformly disliked Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, No Country, A Serious Man and True Grit - NKFOM was particularly poor imho, so good luck with that tonight - I just don't get this pair of massively overrated brothers AT ALL. However, plenty of much wiser film friend fiends say Fargo is their career highlight to date, so this is the Coen's Last Chance Saloon for me ;-0
Gonna try and get there by half six to try out the lovely looking bar food, if anyone wants to join me xx

Hey Ho..I do agree with you on NCFOM actually, but know that was well liked by some Cohen bros fans so put it in the programme..Did think A Serious Man looked beautiful even though not a lot happened in it - but then I could gaze at Billy Bob for quite sometime! ..but yes, I agree that they can be a bit hit and miss on the old quality control - maybe because they have a lot of control over each project (screenwriting & directing etc) so perhaps lack some perspective when it comes to in-jokes and how far to take things...anyway hope you won't be disappointed by Fargo - it is fab and has some brilliant performances in it - AND then you really should give The Big Lebowski a go too the sunday after if you have't seen it (19th)...see you next sunday :) Caro

They are great at parodying characters and reality and I think that's there in their films weather the plot was well done or not
