Only God Forgives

The Cunning Plan

Now that The Great One (all hail Mariah) hath declared the monthly film screening this/last Sunday to be Les beachy Miserables, the path has been cleared for consultation with The Wise One (all hail Stella) about posting this Refn/Gosling totty-fest. It seems to be dividing both audience and critical opinion a great deal more than their previous collaboration in Drive, and this one comes replete with Kristin Scott Thomas playing against type as a motherly nutter at the heart of a familial revenge thriller. I don't think it's going to be subtle. Here's the trailer;

The Movie Summary (from Rotten Tomatoes)

Julian (Ryan Gosling), a respected figure in the criminal underworld of Bangkok, runs a Thai boxing club and smuggling ring with his brother Billy. Billy is suddenly murdered and their crime lord matriarch, Crystal (Kristin Scott Thomas) arrives from London to bring back the body. When Jenna forces Julian to settle the score with his brother's killers, Julian finds himself in the ultimate showdown.

The Meetup Arrangements

From 7.45pm at Circus Circus directly across the road from the Duke of Yorks, where the film starts at 9.30pm. Come for drinks and/or the wonderful cooked-to-order thai food experience before the film.  We'll be heading into the cinema to grab seats a little after 9.

Unless you've got money to burn, please don't buy your ticket beforehand!!! This being a Wednesday, come armed with an Orange 241 for code, and we'll team you up with someone who doesn't have an Orange code, and you can both get a half-price ticket. Not on Orange? Then you can buy a SIM for a quid in Poundland, put it into your existing mobile, top-up a fiver and hey presto, half-price cinema tickets ever after :-)

    Did anyone else think that Kristen Scott - Thomas looked like a brassy version of Madonna?!...

    I too struggled with this one. Some scenes were good, but the pace!

    Thanks for organising Mike, glad I went to see it - although I nearly walked out too! Even gorgeous Gosling couldn't save this one for me. Pretentious, wannabee art house. Sub-Tarantino but lacking his style and wit. Kristin Scott Thomas best thing in it....

    Not really my type of movie....must pay more attention when watching the trailers next time. The Thai food was good though and it was very nice to have met you all. :0)

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
