Blue Jasmine take 2

Here it is, the second chance to see Woody Allen's latest film, those who saw it on Sunday thought it was a cracker, have a read of their reviews if you haven't already - there are no spoilers!
I know that 9 0'clock is late for people with work the following day but it is the only time and day that works for me and we get to take advantage of the cheap tickets on a Monday at the Duke's. Please make a careful note of the venue since the film is actually showing at both the Duke's and D@K. I'm guessing it won't be that busy and so suggest we meet in the upstairs bar beforehand at around 8.30
See you there,
Colin

I've been avoiding Woody Allen films for years because they became too angst ridden with hyperactive performances. But I really enjoyed this. Although the characters were caricatures they were believable. Cate Blanchett & Sally Hopkins were superb and, as Colin says, nicely paced. Nice twist too!

This might be my film of the year so far, I thought Cate Blanchett was outstanding. Like Joanne I thought one or two scenes didn't quite work and looked a bit rushed but overall I loved it. Much less reliant on quickfire one-liners and slapstick than many of his previous films, more slow-paced and full of pathos.

Sorry we all dashed off at the end, we were about to turn in to pumpkins I think.

    Until next time,

    Colin

I think Rush might be my film of the year so far. I went with a friend who wanted to see it and, not being remotely interested in Formula 1 or racing, I went along quite reluctantly. I have to say though that the film was ACE!! It was edge of your seat kinda stuff, a fascinating story, well shot, good script, and the acting and storyline were excellent. I'd seen the trailer and thought 'meh', but it was a fantastic film and one I heartily recommend you go and see as it was THRILLING and not what you'd expect at all.

I'm a huge Woody Allen film but that's not to say I like all his films. I really love some of his early comedies (who doesn't) but one of my favourites is Crimes & Misdemeanour's so I actually enjoyed this one as it was kind of back to form for him. The dialogue was a little lazy and the film seemed to have been made without too much care (he does like to knock em out!) but Cate Blanchett gave an incredible performance and I thought it was very well acted. He did well to create a sympathetic character who was also incredibly hard to like. I wonder how much Woody Allen knows about the type of woman he was portraying - or the demographic of most of the characters actually - but I really enjoyed the film and am looking forward to his next one which I believe is already in post production!

Fantastic film, and what a brilliant performance by Cate B in a wonderfully-written role... Sorry I couldn't stay at end to talk but I had to dash to get a couple of buses all the way across town. Next time if it's an earlier screening time it would be nice to stick around.

    Hi folks,
I've changed the meet-up time to 8.30 to give us a chance to get a drink and say hello before we take our seats. We might be quite a big party and, if we want to sit together, we probably need to get into the cinema a bit before the start time.
I suspect that everyone will need to get off pretty quickly at the end as it is going to be a late finish so please post your comments about the film in this thread when you get a chance and let's get an online discussion going.
    See you all tomorrow,
    Colin

Hello Norman, that would be the first time I go as well. I think the idea is to gather at the Circus Circus pub in front of the cinema some time beforehand.
