"Tracks" on Thursday 1st May, 6:30, Dukes at Komedia

Have you ever thought about walking across Australia?Well now you don't have to, you can just watch someone else do it and save yourself all the expense, danger and hard work. This gets good reviews - here's the trailer.  I'll be in the Upstairs bar at Komedia from about 6pm, hope you can join me, look out for the Meetup sign.

I heard an interview with the Director who said exactly that - the slow pacing was a deliberate evocation of the walk itself. I saw it last weekend, and loved the cinematography and score, although the story itself felt a little slight. However, the thing that has been bugging me all week is the still from the trailer above, of the main character sleeping while a snake slithers across her throat - methinks they've been caught out with using a stunt double there as, even with grubbiness / without make-up, that doesn't look much like Mia Wasikowska to me!!!

Oh, and thanks Andy for suggesting and organising this - additional prospective hosts are always very welcome :-)

It gave a real sense of the harshness and isolation of the Outback, but I did start to get a little bored. Phil is probably right in pointing out that a 6 month walk would involve an awful lot of tedium.
Good evening rounded off with art critisism in the pub.

Gentle paced, (largely) unsentimental trek across Australia. Good to see the lead character proper grubby and not continually, mysteriously, re-groomed at the start of each day. I was very touched by the film and would have been happy to have watched the journey continue for longer... I know some of the others found the pace a little boring, I felt though that this added a hint of the reality of the walk.

Thinking of coming over from Worthing to see this, any idea of how much it costs?
