We're the bridge crew of a starship. That's not going to end well, is it?

I think the highlight was the mission where the entire crew (who was Captain??) forgot to press the spacebar on the ships computer regularly. The sponsor's screensaver came on, and the ship's lights went out...

I blame the crew members ignoring my orders.
There were captains?

AHA! Mutiny on my ship!
A good post on roles on Geek.
The opening was very instructive: "The key to succeeding in space alert is coordination and organization ...". Although we had very little practical experience of that last night, certainly lack of coordination and disorganisation seemed to be key features of defeat. "Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat", as Sun Tzu said, and I believe we provided ample support for that last night.
Thanks for hosting the game Simon. My first outing with BPB, and already a record set: longest losing streak in my life! So, um, thanks? ;)
Lots of intense fun, and great to meet everyone. Once I got home I started reading the strategy page of Geek (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/forum/1390/space-alert/strategy). Worth a look. Looking forward to the next loss ... errr, game.
I'll be running this again - same crew if possible. Quite an intense learning curve. Perhaps train up another crew too. Expansion will wait though...
I recommend something like doodle.com for finding a date we can all do.

This game is such great fun. Vlaada is a genius. Thanks for the evening Simon!!!
Jealous :( I'll be there next time though!
That was so much fun. Thank you for hosting Simon! More please :D
What a game! Played... Er... Six games. Utter disaster every time, but much fun had. Another. Soon!
Has everyone received my address, and on for tonight?

Yes and yes and I will bring a board game.
Yup! Happy to bring a game but my brain has deserted me for the day and I can't think what! Will see you at 7.
Will email out address shortly. Please note, the game plays best with five players, so if you're unable to come, let me know ASAP. We have Duncan on the waitlist...
If you have any other five-player games, feel free to bring along, just in case!

Here's a video that goes into a lot of detail about the game:
Also, here's a link to the game's handbook, which shows how it all fits together:
Here is the rule book too:
(Not sure which version Simon has, but I think the Czechgames version is the European edition, and the Rio Grande is the US - in any case, I'm assuming the rules are very different at all.)

How long does the game normally take? Too lazy to check it up myself.
It's actually pretty short -30 mins in theory. And intense... Hoping we get a few in :-)
Not played before, but watched some video play throughs and reviews, and also read the rules a while back. Looks like a lot of fun. Also, it will be my first meetup with the group.

I only just got the game and read the rules... so expect disaster!
[Message deleted] Oops, got my Space Alert confused with my Space Cadet! I will clearly be a valuable crew member ... I'll make sure I wear a red shirt.
Consider yourself demoted Ensign. Or promoted to Captain. Errr... well we're all going to die anyway.
I'll attempt to read the rules before Friday but don't rate my chances! Should we bring snacks etc? Etiquette? Any large dogs in attendance? :p
No large dogs, tribbles or any other gorram livestock. Dress as you were, no further etiquette requirements.
Excellent, thanks Simon ;) remember to let us know the address ;)
Hi all, this will be at my flat (address forthcoming), feel free to bring beer/snacks etc, though I'll provide some. We'll all be learning, so we'll play through the tutorial, and then go and face terrifying death in the void.
If I'm welcome, I'm in!
