Bugger, guys, I've just realised I've double booked tonight... I'm having a dinner with my housemates. I'll still come along, but it will be later.

What is this? Is it different than the other board game night?

Hi Jo, chess is an abstract strategy game. To quote Wikipedia: "An abstract strategy game is a strategy game that minimizes luck and does not rely on a theme". Although we tend to play simpler games than chess. It's a weird little love of mine, the abstract game. A particular favorite, and a good example of the genre, is Amazons: http://en.wikipedia.o...

I'm quite partial to some Hive, so I could bring that along since it doesn't take much room in my backpack. I also have Army of Frogs (same designer as Hive, a simpler game but scales up to 4 players) if there's any interest?

Hi Dan, bring them along. We've played both games before, they'll definitely get a play.

Could be interested, could bring Khet 2.0 AKA Egyptian Layz0r Chess!

    • Matt R.

Ah, the mighty khet! I have it myself, and I have 'the eye of horus' beam splitter, although that's designed for khet 1.0, so doesn't quite fit my set.

Abstract? What arew we talking about here?

    • Matt R.

Hi Mark, as an example, chess and go are Abstract Strategy Games, although we won't be paying those. Two player games with no theme, no luck, just strategy, that's the idea here. Check out the games Abalone, Amazons and Mancala on Wikipedia, and you'll get an idea of what we mean.
