Why do you want to join the Brighton Photographers Group?

I've always loved abstracts, but recent forays into portraiture have surprised me. I love engaging with the subject and getting to know them and their story. Live event photography is how I earn my keep, alongside a varied career in freelance journalism. I've been taking photos since the age of 7, but only thought to do it professionally in the last two years, having finally found the confidence in my work. Courses in Brighton and at the RPS in Bath have finally got me to the stage of doing it for at least part of my working life. I shoot mostly on digital, mainly because it would be hard to do the kind of live events I cover on film, but I invested in an old 1980s Hasselblad a while ago and that has got me back into film for more of my personal projects.

What can you bring to the group? (Cakes are good!)

I'm a journalist and freelance photographer, mainly covering live events for work, but in my free time I am working on a portrait portfolio and delving deep into abstracts.

Jim. Welcome to the BPG! I am looking forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming meetups - of which many are in the calendar or being planned. I am also working on the challenge of taking photos of people - and know of some specific training being set up for this in the near future. Let me know if you would like some details. Glynn
