Welcome to the group! As you see, we had quite a few meetings last year but none lately. I am hoping to start meeting at my house again in the spring. My vision is to gather confident singers who are willing to take risks with their voices and step into harmony naturally by experimentation.
I am hoping that this group will attract people who are not afraid to use their ears and intuition to explore the possibilities of harmony while a song is going on. I encourage people to bring songs they feel are ripe for harmony and to teach the melody to the group. Some stay on the melody and the rest explore as they feel comfortable.
I have been singing all of my life, but I do not read music and am not voice trained. However, I do welcome people who are trained and knowledgeable...music requires both the heart and the head. I do have some experience being a member of a similar group in Scotland a few years ago.
I don't pretend to be the teacher or the preacher or even the facilitator. I want to participate in equal measure. I am hoping we don't actually need a teacher, that we will all contribute to the learning. These goals may seem a little far-fetched for some, but I am willing to explore because there is nothing like the feeling of being at the heart of a song blossoming.
If you can't stop yourself veering off the tune to find the harmonies, this is the group for you. I would love to get together to explore many types of songs and rhythms. A certain amount of confidence in singing the melody is necessary, but I would like to create a supportive atmosphere where everyone will feel safe to explore more than melody and create new sounds together. Let's sing out!
