  • So, this is not a book club, but maybe people would enjoy getting together to discuss various science-oriented books...?

Unfortunately Stanford is a bit far to travel for this one, but I am enjoying the Books.

i'd be interested! who wants to read Voodoo Science by Robert Park, in parallel? Same theme of debunking "sloppy" science. If we get really ambitious we can work out way to Thomas Kuhn's book

Do we have anyone else interested in Nonsense on Stilts? I'd be interested in maybe 3 or 4 meetups to meet and discuss the book as we progress through it. Does that work? I've never done the book club thing before.

A great book that explores the differences between the different fields of science as well as the borderlands of what is and is not science. Nonsense on Stilts: How to Tell Science from Bunk By Massimo Pigliucci
This book is an entertaining exploration of the nature of science, the borderlands of fringe science, how science is conducted, how it is disseminated, how it is interpreted, and what it means to our society. I think this is where ken Ham appropriate the wording 'historical science' in the debate with Bill Nye. Massimo postulates that the hard/soft distinction applied to fields is bull.

Rebecca Skloot's book about Henrietta Lacks is amazing and I'd love to discuss it, even though I'm too busy to check the title on Amazon right now. It covers ethics, science, biography, and is just amazing.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
