Booze and Books Monthly Meetup

The theme for April is South America. The specific book is “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It’s quite a short book – 122 pages in my library copy.

Unfortunately, the library doesn’t have many copies. It does have more copies of “Memories of My Melancholy Whores” by the same author, though you might like to check a review before diving into it (Washington Post).

I’m posting the book early, so there’s time for shipping if you buy it online. Fishpond, Book Depository and Amazon have copies of Chronicle of a Death Foretold.

Another author is Isobel Allende.

I had a great time, thank you to everyone for making feel so welcome. I can hardly wait until next month.

The meeting was enjoyable as usual. Nice company meeting new people and old friends. I enjoyed the discussion on the book and the exchange of ideas in a relaxed setting with good food and company. Thanks Guy for organising this meeting and the book choice.

Apologies I would have loved to have been there but I couldn't manage it tonight. And I read half of 'The Alchemist' too! Next time.

A good point. A friend of mine told me about his death on facebook. I did not make the connection with the title but good pickup.

Marquez died of pneumonia last week. Not sure if that makes the book choice unintentionally ironic or not.

Read a lot of South American authors so I hope to contribute on a general basis or just drink Chilean Wine!

Colombia, and later than you might think. By counting back, Nasar's murder occurred in '54. It is based upon an actual killing in 1951.

I've posted the book for April! I posted early, because it might be hard to get hold of. (http://www.meetup.com/Brisbane-...)
