Booze and Books Monthly Meetup

Christmas in July... what would mid-winter be without a gathering for food, wine and (of course!) gifts?

For the next meetup – 30th July – let's bring along a gift-wrapped book and randomly exchange them. Something about $10.

And the regular details...

The book for July is The Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis. I've read it - but quite some time ago. From memory, it's quite light reading.

The theme is novels by letter - more formally known as epistolary novels.

Another book in epistolary style is The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society. It's a great read.

The library has only a couple of copies of The Screwtape Letters, but a couple of dozen of The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society.

Wikipedia has a list of epistolary novels, and contemporary

Thanks everyone for an interesting night - enjoyed meeting everyone (well almost everyone). Looking forward to reading King Solomon's mines and a lively discussion next month.

Good meetup. It is amazing how this group regenerates itself as there were a lot of new people with the old stalwarts in which I count myself, Daniele, Peder, Vanessa, Sonya and Guy of course. It is so good to have new people in such a group with new ideas and conversation. Thank you Guy again for the effort and care you take in choosing an interesting topic with a novel which is readable in a short period to suit our busy lives. Thank you also for the larger topics which allows choice in reading. Another good meeting and congratulation on the success of this group.

    Hi all,
I am embarrassed to say that I just couldn't get into The Screwtape Letters, and as I have already read the The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, I went for the third book mentioned which is Where Rainbows Ed by Cecelia Ahern and I love it!

This bookclub is about choice. We will not all like the samething that is why Guy puts a book up but then gives everyone a genre choice. He has organised it very well giving maximum choice.

Hi Martine, Apologies for the delayed reply... I don't check this email address as often as perhaps I ought! Sorry The Screwtape Letters didn't work for you... but looking forward to hearing about Cecelia Ahern. I haven't read her at all.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
