Hello everyone -
One of the most popular and talked about Meetups last year was our whale watching experience on MV Eye-Spy so I thought I would arrange it again (although I do realise that the end of August is some months away). This day trip is a bit expensive so posting it now gives those who want to come along a chance to budget.
Here is the spiel:
"Brisbane Whale Watching (www.brisbanewhalewatching.com.au) invites you to come on board the magnificent ‘Eye-Spy’ for an encounter with the whales. Of all the great whales, the humpback is the most surface-active displaying behaviour that will not only inspire you but leave you in awe. There quite clearly is no better place to observe the mighty humpback than Brisbane’s Moreton Bay, recognised as one of the world’s best Whale watching areas.
Some of the benefits of whale watching in Moreton Bay are:
- GUARANTEED SIGHTINGS OF THE WHALES
- Only 2 vessels allowed in the marine park for Whale watching
- Regular sightings of other marine animals – e.g. pods of dolphins; green turtles; logger head turtles
- Calm clear pristine waters of the bay and surrounding waters
- Whales use the area to rest, bond and feed their young
- Same pods sighted 2 – 3 days
- Up close and personal
While keeping a lookout you’re given an excellent commentary from our onboard expert and female Captain, Kerry Lopez, which leaves you with a better understanding of these huge mammals."
Please note that this vessel is wheelchair-user friendly but from experience last year I know that it would be impossible to be on the top deck so viewing would be from the very spacious dining room area (ceiling to floor windows and plenty of them).
Tablets for nausea are also provided!
Where do we meet?
We meet at Redcliffe Jetty, Redcliffe Parade at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am departure. We return back to the jetty at 2:30 pm.
How do we get to Redcliffe Jetty?
Public transport is available (31 August being a Saturday) but would be a bit fiddly. See translink.com.au. Also car pooling would be an option.
How much do I pay?
The amount of $140.00 per person. Please also note there may be a price adjustment in your favour depending on final numbers attending. I won't know this until the day of the event however.
What we get:
"Guaranteed whale sightings", Expert marine commentary, Morning and afternoon tea, Cold buffet lunch including a selection of cold meats, gourmet salads and tiger prawns, presented in style, licensed bar (souvenirs and snacks available for purchase).
How does it work?
This is a pre-paid event. Once you RSVP yes I will send out an email with the banking details so that your payment can be credited in good time. Your deposit of $70.00 must be received by Monday 5 August 2013 at 4:00 pm as I need to pay the deposit (50%) by close of business on Tuesday 6 August. The balance of $70.00 (must be received by Monday 26 August 2013 at 4:00 pm. Alternatively you could pay in full by Monday 5 August 2013.
