Brisbane Atheists would like to warmly welcome Darrel Ray, the author of 'The God Virus: How Religion Affects Our Lives and Culture' and invites any interested members to come meet and have lunch with our special guest.

Darrel Ray is the founder of the organization 'Recovering Religionists', a US-based self-help group for those leaving their religious indoctrination.

He is also the publisher of the 'Sex and Secularism: What Happens When You Leave Religion?' survey and has been a co-host on The Atheist Experience.

We'll be meeting at Cafe D'bar at 10:00am for snorkling / swimming and then afterwards having lunch at Grill'd at 01:00pm.

Grill'd's address is 72-80 Marine Parade Coolangatta.

Excellent. I hadn't formally considered how much religion wants to control every single aspect of life, and hearing the stories the other people told showed me I was lucky!

Hello fellow thinkers, can someone tell me about what is happening today/tomorrow, and can I get in on it please?

I forget who it was that I gave my email address to yesterday with regard to hearing about this - ahem - other upcoming thing, but suffice it to say I'll need to speak to some fellow Brisbanite or another with regard to transport if I'm to make it.

I have just seen this thread. I live southside, I have difficulty getting to meetups (total = 0 so far). Can I invite myself to this event?

We had a great time today, making new friends and listening to (and questioning) Darryl. Thanks for organising this and looking forward to the next time!

It was a fantastic way to spend a Sunday afternoon and what a great location. Unfortunately I was not able to meet and speak with all my fellow atheists, there just was not the time needed to talk to you all. Meeting Darrel and Judy, and then listing to Darrel speak was the high light of the afternoon, and I envoy all of you who will be lucky enough to have a second opportunity to meet them both again this Tuesday night over dinner and drinks at their Gold Coast unit. I will just have to console myself with the knowledge that I was ably to obtain a signed copy of both his books.

Good-day Aldo my wife has now got something else to do this weekend, so I have a spare seat. I live at Laidley but will drive through Brisbane to pick you up before going to the coast.

    February 7, 2013

    • Aldo

Just a quick note that the snorkelling is along Coral Street in Tweed Heads. Just drive along Tweed Heads until you read the two parking lots, and come find us at the little reefs. I won't have my phone once I get in the water, but if you have any questions prior to, I'm on[masked]c

The talk with Darrel will be across from Grill'd, either on the beach if the markets are still going strong, or on the grass opposite Grill'd.

Just wondering if everyone is meeting up at a table at Cafe D'bar. How do I recognize the crew?

    February 8, 2013

    • Jake F.

Hi mate, I'll be picking up Darrel and arriving at the snorkeling a the Duranbah inlet near the end of Coral St. Generally, you can recognize us by our godless clothing.

Does anyone need a lift? Jase and I could take separate cars so we could drive up to 8 people down. Also, glad I reserved a table for 30 at Grill'd... this Meetup is gonna be one of our BEST yet!!!

Matt and Aldo, when I last spoke to Dave, he was considering a convoy.

Otherwise, if you can get to Beenleigh or Ormeau railway station by 8am on Sunday, I can take a few people. However, I can't take you back, as I have soccer at 4pm.

      February 7, 2013
