Why or how did you become an Atheist?

As an early teenager, when one starts to think about these things, it didn't make sense to me that one group of people could claim that only they knew the truth and everybody else was wrong. Why would a European have more claim to the truth than an Indian or an Egyptian? It was a short step to accepting that none of them had the truth and then I studied science and maths. What more did I need? Fortunately my family was not religious in any way so I was not indoctrinated or made to fear any way of thinking. When I was young, I used to describe myself as intellectually agnostic and emotionally atheist. Now I am a full blood atheist.

What do you want from Brisbane Atheist Meetup meeting?

I expect nothing in particular. I just want to register support because I do not see that 'ratbag' thinking is on the decline.

How did you find out about our group?

I have known about you for ages but probably I did an internet search some years ago.

I am 64 years old, I have a Science Degree in Zoology. I trained as a science/maths teacher but now I work as a programmer.
