Why or how did you become an Atheist?

I grew up in a minority religion (and as a short person) and was aware from an early age about how society tends to treat people who don't conform to what it sees as "normal" (answer = kinda crappy). At first I tried to appreciate the cultural aspects of my heritage and live up to my label, but in the end I couldn't deny that I just don't believe in god. No proof. So why call myself something I'm not? I'm an atheist, and the world needs to stop discriminating (yeah right).

What do you want from Brisbane Atheist Meetup meeting?

Not sure, hopefully meet some people at some point and share some frustrations, some laughs, and maybe even a few get-religion-out-of-govt type efforts along the way.

How did you find out about our group?

I get Meetup digests.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Janet and I seem to be undergoing a subtle radicalization of my life philosophy as this relates to atheism. I figured it might be healthier to belong to a group that understands my frustrations than to (just) yell at the walls at home.
