Mindfulness and the Present Moment

We are now continuing at St Marks on thursday evenings.

The Present Moment is central to mindfulness as we can see from these quotes:

Mindfulness Means Paying Attention In A Particular Way; On Purpose, In The Present Moment And Non-judgementally ~ Jon Kabat-Zinn

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have” ~ Eckhart Tolle

Present moment awareness is ultra-logical because as soon as we become aware that the present moment is all there is we realize that we need to find a way to live in it rather than the imaginary past or future.

There's the rub... Our culture is constantly pulling us into the future with needs, wants, desires, expectations, ambitions and aspirations. Life seems to be beckoning from the future or rooting us in the past as we compare everything.

This meeting will focus on the practical measures we can take to gain and retain presence in many life situations: mundane day-to-day experiences, emotional confrontations, family interactions and the endless distractions of a busy life.

All these taken from my experience.

Meditation sessions are held in the room adjacent to St Mark's Church, Westmoreland Rd, Bromley, Kent, BR2 0TB.
Entry is via the main door of the church from which you can enter the church room.
Although we are very grateful for the use of the room, we are not affiliated in any way with St Marks. By Car
There is no parking at the venue though there is parking in nearby streets. You will need to refer to the parking restrictions for times.

By Rail
From Bromley South station, turn left out of the station. Walk to the traffic lights at the junction of Westmoreland Road on your right and you will see St Marks church. This is a two minute walk.
From Bromley North it is either a 15 minute walk or one of many regular buses to Bromley South. By Bus
Bromley South is served by numerous buses including:
119, 126, 138, 146, 162, 208, 246,261, 314, 320, 336, 352, 358, 367, 638

    Hi Guys,

    There were some questions about sleep last night. The way meditation helps is to reduce any train of thought enabling us to drop into sleep. In time it can also work with emotions by using the emotional release techniques I mentioned in the meeting on managing our emotional state.

    There are a couple of other things that can really help which I forgot to add:

    - Cut out the caffeine altogether or at the very least a few hours before bed. It causes the secretion of adrenaline which takes quite some time to reduce.

    - Don't eat carbs before bedtime. They create an insulin spike followed by hypoglycaemia either of which can, and does, affect sleep

    Hi, sorry but I can't make tonight, stuck at work. I wanted to give you the phone n for the church in Widmore road 02084603307. I went to ask them about renting a room but the office was closed.
