♪ Bicycle! Bicycle! ♪

I like to ride my bi-cy-cleeeee~

Update[masked]

It's time you start getting your gear in order guys!

Bring those bikes out of hiding if you haven't seen it in a while.

Does anyone need help transporting their bike? I have exactly room for one more.  I'm afraid I won't have an extra so make sure you're comfortable on the one you have. Let me know and I'll see what I can do to help.

Water:

It's helpful to have a bottle on you just in case.

Lubricant:

It doesn't hurt to spray a bit of WD-40 on those chains. Just don't get any near the brakes.

If you have a pump:

Remember, it's 60psi for bike tires.

If you lack these things, that's fine, come and I'll bring a pump and some lubricant to make sure everyone is situated and ready to go.

As we melt winter into spring (much to my dislike), more people are inclined to spend their precious time in the glorious warm rays of the sun. As such I partake in such fine activities as pedaling, working the handlebars and yes, even good ole cycling. I do say, I do love me some cycling.

I ride solo usually but if you wanted to join me on a jaunt you're more than welcome to. I can ride about 20-30 miles in a go, but we can keep it down to a couple miles if you haven't hopped on a bike for a while.

After 2-3 trips you'll be aching for more and you'll be able to soar past 20 miles in no time.

I ride the trails around my area along the Indian Head Trail, but for everyone's convenience, we can bike the Mt. Vernon trail or the Capital Crescent Trails.

Date and place are tentative, but this is really something for late spring or summer so I'll get more details as the temps get warmer.

The suggested place is a parking lot under the Woodrow Wilson Bridge that makes for a great trailhead since its free parking all day and smack dab in the middle of the Mt. Vernon Trail.

Great! We went about 34 miles to Bethesda and back.

Yep! I had 17 miles coming back from Chipotle and we did a little over 5 waiting for everyone to arrive.

What an awesome ride! I still need a road bike, but gotta thank Andrew for the tips!!!

Most excellent riding, thanks for coming out guys! I really hope we get to do something like this again. Since it seemed everyone kept up with the endurance, we can switch it up to other treks in the area. If anyone had any other suggestions, I'd be all for it, though I may recommend the W&OD Trail. The C&O Canal like Ninja suggested is a good one too, though I'd recommend bringing mountain bikes for that. (or something with good tread)

The next one I plan to hit up if we want to do it as a group may be sometime in late July.

Heads up, today is the day. This event may have to be brushed aside if the weather doesn't cooperate. So far, biking is still on. If it looks like it'll be bad, we'll turn back early and eat in beautiful Old Town Alexandria.

I just realized this day will mark the two year anniversary of the DC Bronies. Hmm, I think some gears are turning. We're gonna make this a good day!

    Is it smooth, uphill, downhill?

    April 14, 2013

    • Swftkat (.

For the most part smooth, but there's some negotiation of streets through Alexandria and a few hilly areas through Arlington.

With every other weekend booked these days, I think I may as well just make it this day. Go ahead and put it up if you like Rift :3

Actually, wait a tic, I just saw Branden changed the rave party to Saturday. I can make this event on Sunday instead to make it easier on everyone.

Got a 29er MTB with the worst rolling resistance, but I will make it!

    April 14, 2013

    • Swftkat (.

That's cool. My MTB isn't as suited for the streets either though I like to think of it as an endurance work out. I know you'll have no trouble handling it.

I have a three-bike trunk rack if any pony needs themselves and their bikes picked up. I haven't been on a trail in a while though - this is a good impetus to get me back on my bike!

Yes! I am up for 20-30 miles on paved trails (road bike).
