The Trotting Crusaders of NYC

Join us, on another day out in the city for a 5 mile exploration of Roosevelt Island. We will explore this island for all that is has to offer. We will see the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Four Freedoms Memorial Park and the ruins of the "Octagon", which was once a mental asylum.

We will be hiking the entire island at a fast pace. There will a few stops to admire the sights and so we can also talk about what we see.

We will all collectively meet inside NYC Penn Station in front of the Information booth in the rotunda (imaged below).

We will leave 30 minutes, past the hour. So get there EARLY! We will then make our way to Herald Square to take the N line train to get to the Roosevelt Island Tram station to cross over the river and arrive on the island.

After which time we finish the hike off after we make our way off the island by way of the Tramway. By that time people may go on their way, or if you wish you can join the remaining Bronies who will be going to get a bite to eat.

Notice about necessary fare: for use the the NYC subway will cost $2.25 per ride then there is the tram fee of $4 which will get you round trip to and from Roosevelt Island. So bring an estimated $10 dollars for transit when we start out.

As a recommendation of this being a hike, it is important to keep well hydrated. So bring along a water bottle. There is some water fountains in the parks, but the first option is highly recommended this time.

Other recommendations would be possibly a light snack if you get a munchies moment while on the hike, also a small towel.

Any other questions or recommendations, please let us know in the comments. Phone number will be posted on the morning of the Meetup.

John and I had a blast. He enjoyed all of the intellectual

I've been very tired lately. I won't be making this. It seems like the type of meetup that I'd really enjoy. Hopefully, I'll be able to make the next one. Have a great day, Trotting Crusaders!

What school did you go to? I went to High School of Art and Design on 56th street, a minute walk from the Roosevelt Island Tram station.

I'll have to break away early for work, but I need a meetup and I need it now!

Also, $1.75 for a subway ride? Did I read this correctly?

    2 · June 12, 2014

    • BITGAMER

Woops, I derped there. Fixed now.

      June 13, 2014

  • Alex G.

Looking forward to this walk. It's always good to have some exercise that isn't work every once in a while!

  • Crystal Q.

Just to make sure, is this the station where the 1/2/3/A/C/E trains stop by?

    June 4, 2014

    • Rye_B

I know the subway trains 1/2/3 have a stop righty across the street of penn station. So you should be good there. The A/C/E trains stop close by as well, but they stop a few blocks away from penn station.
