Pony P&P RPG

Hey everypony. I'd like to start a group for a ponified pen and paper RPG system that is based on World of Darkness. This group will be for ponies who want to RP a pony that goes and takes on various quests. The story revolves around the players acting as Royal Guards in training, and they must complete missions in order to prove themselves capable of being Celestia's Guard.

I'd like for anyone who is interested in joining the group to come check it out, even if you're new to P&P rpgs. I would also like to state up front that I am not the creator of this system. I am simply using it as a game master. (Or pony master.)The only thing that I have done so far is create a simple outline for a mission.

We need a date that ponies are free to come and learn more about the group and the system, and hopefully these times will be good for everypony to actually sit down and play the game too.

We need a place where we can meet up and discuss the group and the system, and also a place where we can host the group to play.

If anyone has any suggestions for anything, feel free to speak your mind.

You know, if all else fails, we could try doing it over Skype since there's voice chat? There's also a few programs out there to show pieces or any special terrain that I've seen used for DnD online groups that we could use if necessary.

I actually have to work on Saturdays now... So either the day has to change, or it has to be put off indefinitely.

Its a bit of a drive from A&M I'm afraid. I was really hoping it would startup earlier in the summer while I was still in dallas

As promised, here is a synopsis of our session on Saturday, 9/15.

All players found themselves summoned to Canterlot for an announcement of an unknown event. Upon arriving at the gathering amongst a huge crowd, they learned that Canterlot will be hosting an arena tournament which will begin in one month. The entry fee is 75 bits per participant, and the format is set for pairs. Entrants can sign up in pairs, or register solo and receive or choose a partner at a later date.

2 pairs have already been set up amongst the players, but there are still 2 current members without partners.

I look forward to seeing previous players and new players at our next meeting. I will post a new event soon.

I think we should go with that one, it's the version I downloaded and it seems like the best one

Bringing this up again since we haven't decided on version, but I came across this in a Google search. I think it might be the original posted but updated, there's a season one and season two edition, so I was wondering what people thought of it.

I will be bringing a sandwich tray from Jason's Deli. If everyone could bring a few bucks contribute, that would be beneficial

Just a reminder guys, Amanda has not managed to get wifi yet. So it would be best if you downloaded the .pdf to your laptop. It's downloaded on mine so if needed people can gather around mine and read it

Actually, I'm going to try and make it out to this one. Should we try to get our character sheets figured out prior to or would are we just going to figure out this beast together?

Agh! I want to go, but it's just way to far away.

Here's a system that we could use:

Was just browsing /mlp/ and saw this, thought it might be useful to us.

    • Michael 'Music Meister' C.

I really like that one. We probably won't decide which one until we get there, so we can be sure everyone who will be participating gets a vote. I'm torn between the two, so we'll just wait :P

      September 13, 2012

    • Patrick V.

More options is great! As for what system we use, it doesn't make an enormous difference to me.

      September 14, 2012

  • Jonathan B.

We could use as many tables and chairs as possible

    September 14, 2012

    • Kyle K.

Alright, I'll see how many I can get into my car. I've 4 tables total, I think, each seating 4.

      September 14, 2012

  • Kyle K.

Quick question: since I've never played a P&P RPG before, exactly how lost will I be? I'm willing to learn, but I'm just curious if I'm going to have any clue what's going on.

    September 13, 2012

    • Kyle K.

Well at least I'm not the only one then =P

      September 13, 2012

    • Michael 'Music Meister' C.

It's a lot of imagination, more than anything. I'm sure we'll have several veteran RPers (including myself) who can help you along. If I end up being the DM, which it seems like I will, a lot of our time will be spent describing actions and being more imaginative, and less on by-the-book stuff and hardcore rule-crunching.

I'd love to go, but that's close to an hour of a drive for me and since I'm not working, that's a bit far for me, unfortunately. So I think I'll be sitting this one out, unfortunately.

    September 13, 2012

  • Kyle K.

Okieday, I can attend Saturday. Do we still need tables? If so, let me know and I'll bring a couple card tables/chairs.

    September 13, 2012

  • Isai D.

Lewisville is a bit far for me..
A trip like that and a old car just doesn't add up..
so i won't be able to go unless i can carpool with someone.

    September 13, 2012

  • Jonathan B.

Amanda said okay, it'll be 5 dollar admission fee though. You get a fee Nos like last time

Hey guys, just wanted to clarify my latest post, I typed it up in a hurry without thinking it over.

I'm still interested in playing, and Saturday is great for me. Whether or not I attend will depend on the location it's hosted. I live in Coppell and don't mind driving a ways away to get this going.

Unfortunately I still do not know any places that can host a group of people. My apartment is a bit too small and cramped to handle such a group.

I actually managed to get on online group for this going after this event sank and we ran a few sessions. To comment on the system I linked originally, I didn't like it. I felt it was difficult to balance encounters, and my players would end up with a near-TPK or rolling through the dungeon no problem. The gameplay itself seemed really clunky as well, compared to GURPS, Pathfinder, etc.

Michael, if you still intend to DM I wouldn't suggest using the one I linked.

    September 10, 2012

    • Michael 'Music Meister' C.

I don't see any other link than the original one in the description. Can you link it again?

      September 10, 2012

    • Patrick V.

The original one is the one I was talking about. PonyRPG v0.92

      September 11, 2012

  • Kyle K.

If we do indeed get a room there, and if I'm able to attend, I have spare card tables at my house that I could bring. Each table sits 4.

    September 10, 2012

  • Jonathan B.

I can talk to Amanda about holding it there. Only thing is, if people could bring their own chairs (and maybe a table or two depending on how many people show)

    September 10, 2012

  • Michael 'Music Meister' C.

It doesn't have to be Saturdays. The only problem is, as my work schedule currently permits, I can really only do mornings. If we verified a real weekly time for our sessions, I could probably move my schedule around, but until then, my only afternoon/evening openings are Saturday and Tuesday.

Totaly into this!!! If you have a spot open that is.

So this thing is just around the corner and no one has suggested a place.
i live in a small apartment so i can't host it.

we'd need a decently sized place... i'm gonna see if i can get a large room in Flower Mound (fingers crossed)

Well, that makes 3 + a DM. I made a post on everypony's wall who initially signed up to leave a comment if they were still interested. Hopefully a couple more will do so. I wish this endeavor the best of luck.

Guys, if a tentative date could be added to all announced meetups it would help prevent them from languishing in meet up hell and never actually coming to fruition. The date doesn't have to be the final date, but it will spark a discussion of a final date.

I suppose somepony will need to step up as a dm as well unless Patrick's schedule has changed and he's still interested.

    August 29, 2012

    • Patrick V.

Yeah, unfortunately I've come into a lot more work than when I posted this. So I will totally be unable to do anything.

      September 4, 2012

    • Michael 'Music Meister' C.

I'm trying to get it moving, but it looks like it's gonna flop for now... No one else seems to be interested.

I could DM for this if we can decide on which system to use. I vote for a D20 system or a D10 white wolf-esque system. My free days are Tuesdays and Saturdays, so I'll go ahead and put a Saturday a couple weeks from now as the date so we can get this rolling again.

    August 29, 2012

  • Isai D.

    it sound fun.
until i read the rule book..
but i still want too try it :D
i live in dallas, but i may be able too go to fort worth
also how long dose a game last normally?

    June 8, 2012

  • David M.

I would be down. I play a pen and paper game with my brother and friends. I live in Fort Worth. Work is the problem with attending for me, unless we have a day 3 weeks in advance, or it falls on a day I am going to be off on, then I might be able to come, depending on location as well.

  • Patrick V.

Hey guys, I apologize for not being around to comment on anything here. I just got a fresh load of work in school recently, so all my free time just flew out the window.

So that means I won't be here to DM anything, but I'm going to leave the meetup post here if someone wants to pick up that cup.

    Yes. That is all.

I've never played a pen and paper RPG, but it's always been a lingering interest. I feel like I might be overwhelmed, but once we get a time and place settled, I'd love to go and play a bit!

I vote something reasonable, whatever it is

I'm in Coppell, but I wouldn't mind driving a town or two away. Does anyone have any particular restaurants that they enjoy? We've got pretty much everything here.

    January 12, 2012

  • James Vonder H.

Food places are often happy to have role playing groups there. An old grou pf mine used a local Wendys for meetups. As long as you're not obnoxious and you buy a frosty every once in awhile, you're good.

Hmm. I'm not entirely sure about locations, but I'd absolutely love it if it was near/around the Dallas area. Mainly because I'm up here in McKinney. As for times, I'm good with whatever.
