UPDATE: I need to get an estimation of where everybody who wants to attend lives. Just name a big city you're really close to. I'm doing this because my parents are avid campers, and my mom used to be a forest ranger, so she's really knowledgeable when it comes to any campground in northern California. We'll pick a place that's relatively close to everybody instead of just limiting it to just Yellow Jacket or Mt. Diablo.

On the subject of "Mount Diablo" and "a long time", I'm reminded of how well the mountain is healing from the fire that happened on it a few months ago. New plants are growing that haven't been seen in decades.

I got a suggestion. Instead of camping in the woods why not do it at the beach during the summer?

    April 30, 2013

    • Jordan O.

I'm not too fond of camping at a beach... all that sand?

      April 30, 2013

  • Brandon N.

(I know this is still far off, but wanna get this out of the way and see how many would be able to attend) The following is a comparison of pros and cons of both campgrounds.

Just checked out Mt. Diablo, and apparently, according to Google maps, uses roads that have restrictive access, or may even be private roads. There is a reservoir nearby, although I'm not sure if swimming is allowed, as the only parking is near a boating ramp. However, it does still offer hiking, biking and horseback riding (for those that are willing to pay for it). Stunning views and breathtaking sights accompany the aforementioned activities. It is also closer to some of those attending.

Yellow Jacket does not offer hiking or horseback riding, but it still offers some biking (It's a single 1 mile trail). It also offers dozens of water sports. Power boating, along with all of its perks, is permitted. Fishing and swimming are also allowed, although not in the same area to prevent accidents.

What would the logistics/legality for us underage bronies?

    March 15, 2013

    • Brandon N.

It all depends on how comfortable your parents are about you staying with people you've only met over the internet. I recommend that you bring one of your parents and find a neighboring campsite, so they'll meet us and be able to supervise you all they want (So they'll have no reason to complain). Unfortunately, this is probably best; my parents were the same until I took them to a meetup and had them meet the people I was hanging out with.

      March 15, 2013

  • Brandon N.

Do you guys think that the Yellow Jacket camping location works out okay, as there aren't any objections to it as of now? This is probably still a long way off (Late July/Early August), but it'd be best if we nailed down a place, at least. In addition, we'd need to set up groups of people for each campsite (Can't have 17-19 people getting separate campsites; it'd be hell trying to get ones that are close to each other, let alone all those in a giant cluster). Not much else to say; I'm just trying to jumpstart the brainstorming for this again.

I say a 3 day camping trip. Day 1 arrive and set up, Day 2 all fun day, Day 3 pack up and move out. So it's 3 days and 2 nights. but those that can't stay that long can still camp the first day and take of the next day if they wish and the ones who want to stay the full 3 days can stay.

      1 · March 4, 2013

    • Sean N.

I'm with FireStreak on this one, I'd probably stay for the full duration since not only is it more fun and allows time for doing more stuff, but also because it's more of a challenge and we'll see who can outlast nature and survive the whole trip!

      March 4, 2013

  • FireStreak_I

I would suggest camping in august. Spring it gets to cold and not a lot to do IMO, but near end of summer its fun, especially if there is a lake or reservoir since you can go swimming or fishing and do lots more stuff like badminton, volleyball, or play a game of football. where me and friends went camping was called Yellow jacket, here's a small video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWln4UaWMA0 ). the drive up is a bit scary since your overlooking the mountains with no guardrail and a very thin road but once you get there it's awesome and also it is Bear country out there.

    February 12, 2013

I suppose not. If it's anytime soon, though, I won't be able to go, since my foot is broken. After my foot heals? In the summer? Sure, I'd be up for that. Mount Diablo would be my first choice.

Hrm how about up near Mt Shasta? up north of redding? maby MT Lassen, or even in Butte Medows, if you know where that is near chico. i know a few good spots up there.

    September 24, 2012

    • Samuel Gronseth I.

That's closer to my area; I'd be able to go if that were the location. But it's far enough from the major population centers that I don't know if most of the people here could make it.

      September 24, 2012

    • Jordan O.

Yeah, that's *really* far away. You do something up in Shasta county, very few of us can go. Recruit more bronies from up in that area of California, maybe, before doing meetups there. For now, the Bay Area is our center of operations. (Sorry.)

And someone has to bring a guitar, or any instrument at least. I still think Mount Diablo is the one state park for camping that's closest to the greatest amount of us. Not too far north, not too far south.
