Bronies Invade Baycon 2013

Baycon is a venerable institution among the geek fandom here in the SF Bay. Last year, a pair of fellow Bronies & I charmed the hell out of the place by running around the halls cosplaying (winning an award at the Masquerade for it!) and handing out cool "Bronies & Pegasisters" ribbons that *everyone* seemed to want.

Next year, FULL-ON PONY INVASION!

'Sides, it's generally a fun little con. We could even arrange an MLP party room, MLP BOF…maybe even a panel if we can get anyone from the Baycon planning committee interested enough to invite MLP writers/producers/VAs for it. We have enough time to plan! ;-)

    I'll have to see... since it is closer then Fanime I'd have more of a chance to go. I go camping that weekend but I can maybe slip into this con. And you're sure it's all cool with us sort of invading? I don't want to feel REALLY awkwardly out of place. xD But since we are going as a group that'd make me feel a little more comfortable.

    Is everypony getting excited? I want to see you all there! You won't be able to miss me as I will naturally be cosplaying Twilight Sparkle on the Saturday. Not sure which other costumes I'll be doing which days, but I have a Gaz from Invader Zim and a Rule 63 Shaun from Shaun of the Dead costume with me, too. ;-)

      Anypony gonna cosplay? I look set to have a full Mane 6…princesses? Background/side ponies (or zebras)? Colts or stallions?

    And, for the record, I'm working to have a full Mane 6 + however many side characters as I can managed (pref. anthropomorphized interpretations to more literal ones, but do what you like…), and our Mane 6 are aiming to sweep the Masquerade w/ Grand Galloping Gala dresses. w00t!

    Were the people organizing the con aware that hey set the date on the same weekend as fanime? That's really not a good idea competing against with a huge con.

      LOL…Baycon is 31 years old. It was Fanime that scheduled against *it* originally and, admittedly, prospered. Oddly, while I am (of late) much more of an animation freak, I just prefer the crowd at Baycon. More intimate, diverse in their fandom. Fanime is great, but easy to get lost in the crush. That's why I wanna see more bronies @ Baycon! ^.^

      Oh, and good use of Mars, BTW. I SO wanna see Milky Way & the Galaxy Girls get animated! I'm more of a Pluto, myself. >:}

    I'm curious. What exactly is the con aimed at? The website doesn't say much. 'Geek fandom' is a bit vague of a term to me.

      It IS a bit vague, but then, it's a general-purpose con. It started over 30 years ago in an era where about the only specialized cons were for Star Trek. But that means there's something there for a lot of tastes. :-)

    Are they trying to compete with Fanime?

      Like I said in my reply to AJ, more the other way around, tho they really cater to different audiences. Baycon is a general purpose sic-fi/fantasy/etc. con with something of an emphasis on written works and a more academic take on things. Tho I hear there have been some overtures between Baycon & Fanime to sorta (pardon this) synergies. Have to see what, if anything, comes of that.
