Announcing a new Meetup for BK.js!

What: The HTML5 WebSocket API

When: Tuesday, August 17,[masked]:30 PM

Where: The Knot, DUMBO
45 Main Street Suite 536
Brooklyn, NY 11201

A lot of talk on HTML5 surrounds <video> and <audio>, the new semantic elements, and plenty of stuff that isn't technically a part of the spec but are showing up in browsers at around the same time, like geolocation, css3, and svg. But what has our very own John Brooks excited about the spec doesn't factor very often into your cookie cutter web design blogs or Apple-vs.-Flash articles: the HTML5 WebSocket API, a web standard governing full-duplex communication over TCP.

Says he:

"HTML5 WebSockets will single-handedly revolutionize web technology as we know it. My presentation will explore the ways in which we developers will be able to leverage WebSockets. We'll take a brief look at the current state of Poll and Long Polling and contrast them with currently implemented Web Socket browsers. And then I'll do a demo of how to use them in your HTML5 applications."

We'll be back at our original conference room at The Knot, Brooklyn. We look forward to seeing you!
