Fat Tire Festival - Blue Mountain

Hi All,

This is a great festival in one of the best places we have around for mountain biking. The event starts at 10am and there will be several group rides organized by the festival for different riding levels. Blue Mountain is train accesible. Below is the the Fat Tire Festival Schedule and the directions if you are taking the train.

See you there!

Veronica

For those taking the train, here are the directions:

Take the Metro-North, Hudson Line, in Grand Central (42nd Street) to Peekskill Station. I recommend you seat on the left side of the train so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Hudson River ;-) You can ride your bike from the train station to the park; it is 1.8 miles--below are the directions. I checked the train schedule and there is a train departing Grand Central at 8:43am and getting to Peekskill at 9:45am--you might want to double-check the schedule close to the date though in case there is a modification. Metro Station 300 Railroad Ave Peekskill, NY 105661. Head southeast on Requa St toward South St , 400 ft2. Turn right onto South St, 112 ft3. Continue onto Lower S St, 1.0 mi4. Turn left onto Welcher Ave, 0.4 mi5. Continue onto Lounsbury Ln, 492 ft6. Continue onto Blue Mountain Reservation, 404 ft

Hi Annelisse, as Manny mentioned, Cunningham is a great place to practice, it is easy to get to by public transport and it is relative small so you will not get lost. There are maps online and always people riding that you can ask for directions. You can always suggest a meetup in this group labeling it a "beginner ride at Cunningham" for example and I am sure there will be other people joining you since there are lots of beginners in this group. If you experience any issues posting a ride/event or have any question, feel free to email me privately.

Hi, I think I missed most of you (no phone service), but I did meet a couple of you at the festival, and I had a great time! Are there any other very Beginner bikers here, or people who enjoy Beginner level rides? It was my first time this past Sunday.

We have plenty of beginners most weekends at Back Country Excursions in S.Maine. and we have single track without the rocks and roots. If you ever want to make a road trip up we will make it worth your while. And you will learn a lot of skills that are often overlooked and very important.

Hi All, we don't have a meeting place yet since I'm not sure how the layout of the fest will be this year. I will be at the fest after 11am and after I locate a good spot, I will post a comment here indicating where I'm. If people get there early and want to do the same, please feel free to do so.

Do people know if the demos could be taken on the trail to test ride, either one run or multiple runs?

    • Martín B

You usually get 30 minutes per bike if its busy. They might give you more time if its not. Mt bikers are usually a relaxed bunch, though.

Cool thanks guys. Middle sprocket on my bike needs to be replaced so need a loaner once I'm there. Might as well demo!

Hi, is the group meeting at a specific time or place? I'll be taking the train, and I'm new to the group.

This is an event that you definitely want to make.
Unfortunately I cannot make it this year as we are way too busy riding here. I will miss all my NYER friends and WMBA organizers. However if you need a road trip you can find me in southern Maine. we're having weekend mt bike parties every weekend and I just cannot stop riding and get away this year to the festival there. Have a Blast All! LOL Cliff

Hi Clif, glad to hear that you're busy. Alejandro asked if you were going to be at the festival, he'll be sad to miss you. I'll try to get him back up to Maine this summer for some more riding! He still talks about Anaconda.
