Banjo I: 7pm Taught by Hilary Hawke
Banjo II: 8pm Taught by Hilary Hawke
In Banjo I you will learn the basics of "clawhammer" style banjo playing which is a style of banjo playing used in Old-Time Music. Students will begin learning a tune in the first class and by the end for the 8 week session, with practice, will be able to play several tunes in the Old-Time repertoire. Learning tools include written tablatures detailing the music, as well as ear training and listening to historical recordings. Students will gain the foundation for excellence in Old-Time banjo playing.
In Banjo II students who have completed Level 1 or are equivalent in their playing level will continue to learn more Old-Time banjo tunes, techniques, banjo tunings and nuances of style. The history of the music and key banjo players will also be discussed.
Class size is limited to 8 people. Don't have an instrument, you can rent a banjo from us!
