Our June selection, Jhumpa Lahiri's Interpreter of Maladies, may be familiar to many members; the book DID sell >15,000,000 copies. Oprah liked it. The New Yorker liked it. Six of my 11 friends who have reviewed this on Goodreads.com gave it five stars. And you might have read Lahiri's The Namesake, or Unaccustomed Earth, in which case you're bound to like it too.
Interpreter of Maladies is a collection of stories about the lives of Indians and Indian Americans who are caught between the culture they have inherited and the "New World."
As always, we'd love to have you join us, even if you haven't read the whole thing, if you've never come before, or you haven't been here in months, we don't care. We're not one of those clique-y groups. Come on by and pull up a chair.
Black Mountain has several lovely wines from light and crisp to full and ruby, fruity sangria, tasty small plates, and a comfortable vibe. Come join us on Monday, June 17th!
P.S.: Oh, about the $1 fee: Meetup charges $12+/month to maintain a Meetup group, so this is just an attempt to defray some of that cost. You probably can't even buy a single, greasy samosa from Curry In A Hurry for that price.
P.S.#2: Innovation in action! We have now scheduled several meetings in advance, so you can plan a few months of reading entertainment.
