For September, we're staying into the 00s by reading Junot Diaz's The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. Goodreads.com describes this book as "A true literary triumph.... Díaz immerses us in the tumultuous life of Oscar and the history of the family at large, rendering with genuine warmth and dazzling energy, humor, and insight the Dominican-American experience, and, ultimately, the endless human capacity to persevere in the face of heartbreak and loss."
If you don't already own a copy, this book is available at many local bookstores; at the public libraries in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan; and at Amazon in both book and kindle forms, at Barnes and Noble, and from used bookstores like Thriftbooks.com. Once again, this one isn't too long. As always, we'd love to have you join us, even if you haven't read the whole thing.
Black Mountain has several lovely wines from light and crisp to full and ruby, fruity sangria, tasty small plates, and a comfortable vibe. Come join us on Monday, November 12th!
P.S.: What? You've never come before, or you haven't been here in months? We don't care. We're not one of those clique-y groups. Pull up a chair.
