This is a message from one of our members, please contact Ferney if you are interested or want more info about this program - [address removed] - This is a great opportunity to get involved with the community and work with youth.
We have a Career Mentoring volunteer opportunity for RPCV’s at the Bronx Zoo, Monday APRIL 22, from 3:30-6:00pm. We need at least 5 volunteers to speak about their Peace Corps experience, their careers, studies and do some icebreakers with the participants. Below you will find information on the event.
About the Program
The Future Leaders Program is a workforce development program for underserved youth in New York City. The vision is to develop the next generation of global citizens, teach the critical skills necessary to be successful in the world of work and build collaborative relationships through community engagement. Every month we have a career mentoring sessions where we bring in professionals from a variety of backgrounds to speak with our students about their life and career and what it took to get there.
· Future Leaders participants are at risk youth between the ages of 16-24. They are not yet enrolled in college and have various career interests: from business to psychology to conservation.
· Participants are part of a 2 year training program focused on developing communication and presentation skills, academic goal-setting, and career readiness through training and mentoring.
The format of the sessions is very simple. There will be a panel at the front of the room, and a moderator. All we really need you to do is talk to the participants. They may have some questions for you, etc. Here are some of the talking points we have for our mentors:
