Sunday Platform: Educating Young Men of Color, With Frank Spradley

  • May 4, 2014 · 11:00 AM

Frank Spradley has addressed the particular challenges facing boys and young men of color in his 30+ years working in and with NYC public schools. In this platform, he will share the latest insights about how to take on the structural inequality that leaves these youth with lower literacy and HS graduation rates, including approaches he crafted as founding principal of the Benjamin Banneker Academy, a former district superintendent, and in his first position as a principal at an elementary school. These range from creating all-male classes to calling on students “to understand and appreciate the needs” of fellow human beings “and to be of service to them.”
