Sunday Platform: Hand in Hand with Jone Johnson Lewis

  • June 22, 2014 · 11:00 AM

This shorter-than-usual platform will precede the annual member meeting, where our commitment to democracy is practiced, embodying that the members are the ultimate rulers of the Ethical Society. How do we embody a "deep democracy" of participation throughout the year? Interim Clergy Leader Jone Johnson Lewis reflects on the common experience of building community, which, to work, requires the commitment of many individuals, contributing with heads, hearts and hands. How do we balance between individual needs and the community's needs, between freedom and commitment? How do we know when to say "yes" and when to say "no"? How do we know HOW to say either "yes" or "no" most constructively?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
