BSFW Short Story Meetup

  • May 16, 2013 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Deadline for submission of stories to be critiqued is Friday of the week preceeding the Meetup. On Saturday, I'll send out an email listing the stories to be critiqued and in what order. Print out and mark up your copies in advance.

Please make sure your manuscript is properly formatted. See our Procedures, located under the Pages tab, for guidelines and an example, as well as advice for a constructive critique. Having manuscripts already formatted makes the critiquing process easier.

Most of the meeting will be spent critiquing work of group members. There is a structure in place to make sure the critiques are as helpful as possible for everyone involved, and that the writers leave with a clear idea of what to do with their stories next.

We'll also spend some time talking about writing, sharing news and information, and getting to know one another. It's always easier to take constructive criticism from someone you know, so the social element of the group is as important as the work itself!

And it looks as though my phone number didn't make it into this new edit: (312) 618-2832.

Fantastic meeting. I really appreciated the insight into my story. Thanks to this group, I feel like I can take risks with my fiction I might never have taken on my own. Tremendously helpful! And all the other stories were so good, I always feel like I'm in good company.

I tell you, when it rains,it pours. And we were worried that we'd run out of writers. :-)

Sorry dudes, my family is coming in for a visit from out of town, and bumped up their arrival date! Was looking forward to meeting you all. Until next month....

Sam, since I didn't clear the waitlist in time for the submission deadline, I'm out, but glad to see you ended up with a nice lineup of stories anyway! (Still not at all sure my work schedule would have allowed me to make it to a weekday meeting anyway.)

Folks, I may have to work that evening, so just put me on the waiting list, but if there is someone really really eager, please let them have my spot on the list.

Sam, I'm not at all sure I'll either be able to make the meeting or the 5/10/13 submission deadline, so...including the waitlist...I'm a definite maybe.
