What to Expect:
Nine days before the meeting you will receive an email from Meetup with links to download each story for critique from our Dropbox account. Click on the link and download the stories.

Please make sure your manuscript is properly formatted. See our Procedures, located under the Pages tab, for guidelines and an example, as well as advice for a constructive critique. Having manuscripts already formatted makes the critiquing process easier.

Most of the meeting will be spent critiquing work of group members. There is a structure in place to make sure the critiques are as helpful as possible for everyone involved, and that the writers leave with a clear idea of what to do with their stories next. You can find advice about how to give a critique here.

We'll also spend some time talking about writing, sharing news and information, and getting to know one another. It's always easier to take constructive criticism from someone you know, so the social element of the group is as important as the work itself!

As with most writers groups I've joined, people are a bit more kind and balanced in their critiques once they get to know you. Always some very though-provoking suggestions come out.

Glad it worked out for you, Mark. However... just to share my own personal preferences...the last thing I would want would be for anyone critiquing my work to be kind because they know me. The way I figure it my readers won't know me so I at least try to make my work "stranger-proof."

Hey Shan - I don't know if you know but apparently the LIRR *might* strike tomorrow. It might affect your commute.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
