The Broward Lotus Sangha and Tu Viện Hương Hải
Are pleased to invite you to a
Day of Mindfulness
In the Tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh
Led by Venerable Brother Thich Huong Hue
Sunday, October 26, 2008
In Davie, FL
From 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Venerable Brother Thich Huong Hue is a Monastic Dharma Teacher who was ordained as a Buddhist monk by Zen Master Thich Nhẩt Hạnh (Thây) in Plum Village, France, in 1989. He currently serves as the Abbott of Tu Viện Hương Hải, a Vietnamese Buddhist Monastery in Florida.

This Plum Village-style Day of Mindfulness (DOM) will provide a wonderful opportunity for those who want to deepen their mindfulness practice with time for reflection and silence in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. Throughout the day, we will enjoy periods of sitting and walking meditation, chanting, and mindful movements, as well as Deep Relaxation, a Dharma Talk by Venerable Brother Thich Huong Hue in English and Vietnamese and a Dharma Sharing from the fourth-fold Sangha. We will enjoy a traditional Vietnamese lunch, tea ceremony, and dinner. There will also be an opportunity for those who wish to formally take the 5 Mindfulness Trainings to do so at the end of the day.

This event is free an open to all practitioners. However, your generosity in providing a donation or Dana for the monastic and lay Sanghas is gratefully accepted and encouraged. Your kind donation to the Sangha or community of practitioners helps us defray the costs associated with this DOM and supports the activities of the Sangha.

Please arrive before 8:00 A.M. so you can relax and absorb the peaceful beauty of the natural surroundings and to help the Sangha set up for the day.
Please respect and appreciate noble silence during the duration of the formal activities of the day. An opportunity for sharing and mindful conversation will be provided towards the end of the DOM.

Sangha T-Shirts and Thich Nhat Hanh's CDs, DVDs, and books will be available for those who may want to obtain them for an additional donation.

To register, please e-mail our assitant organizer. Directions and a list of what to bring will be sent to all registered participants. Please register as soon as possible so we can plan the meals for the day.

This Plum Village-style Day of Mindfulness in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh was a wonderful opportunity for the Vietnamese and Western communities to come together as a Sangha to deepen our mindfulness practice. In the morning, we enjoyed Thich Nhat Hanh's 10 Mindful Movements, and walking meditation, sitting practice, chanting, and a formal recitation of the Five Mindfulness Trainings. After sharing a delicious traditional Vietnamese silent lunch, we practiced Deep Relaxation. In the afternoon, we enjoyed a Dharma Talk by Venerable Brother Thich Huong Hue, followed by a Dharma Sharing from the four-fold Sangha, and a traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony with poetry and songs of practice. In the early evening, we shared a dinner lovingly prepared by the monastic Sangha. During the closing ceremony, four of our Sangha members formally took the 5 Mindfulness Trainings and received their certificates and Dharma Names in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.
