I'm really glad everyone had such a good, great and awesome time. Organizing these meetups can be a lot of work but it makes it all worth the effort when I get such positive comments. I feel all warm and fuzzy. lol Thanks for coming out.

Antonella sent me the pics this morning so I'll take the best from both cameras and post them over the weekend. All are tasteful so not to worry. The underwater shots are really cool.

Best time I've had in a long while puddling around in a deep pool. I've spent way more cash on stupider things in the past and wonder how I never got around to doing this sooner. Thank you M. J-Y Cousteau clearly I owe you one. Still not ready to belt out John Denver tunes though ..... yet.

Unless I'm an IT genius who can break bank code or a extreemly talented magician it's highly unlikely that I had anything to do with it. Glad you got it figured out.

      1 · January 14, 2014

    • Karen

I meant did you do something through your bank?
I spoke to my bank and they said the funds are there but they are on hold whilst they investigate but at least they are back in the right spot now since I obviously don't have a spot for the event.

If anyone is interested I'd like to head out afterwards for some food and drink. There's not much that I can find close by so if anyone knows of something in the area please let me know.

Tonight I saw a show talking about how 50% of the coral in the Great Barrier Reef has been destroyed within the last 30 years. It will be gone in our lifetime! I was there 20 years ago and noticed it then. I really hope that when you try scuba diving, you'll get the bug and see some of the incredible sights that I have seen before they are all gone - and that won't be long. You don't have to go that far (Curacao, Belize, Turks & Caicos are incredible), but you do have to go soon....and it's worth it. A coral garden is a magical world, worthy of everyone's Bucket List!!!!!!!

    January 11, 2014

    • Dutch

If you don't have a PayPal account it's probably easier to send an e-transfer. If you've never done one before just call your bank on the back of your convenience card and they can walk you through it. Security answer: scuba

Silly question, do you need to know how to swim?

    January 9, 2014

    • Dutch

They suggest that you're comfortable in the water. At least a dog paddle. But then again you learned how to skate your first time out.

      January 9, 2014

  • Linda

I'm very excited to try scuba diving I've always wanted to try but was afraid to commit because I thought it was too expensive....But for $30 I can try it and see if I like it! I've been telling all my friends and I'm finding out that a lot of them are already certified!
This is a great idea! Thank you!

    2 · January 8, 2014

  • Dutch

Yes there is parking at BISHOP STRACHAN SCHOOL

You don't need to be a great swimmer but you should be comfortable in the water.

You will need a swimsuit and towel

Payment instructions are in the discription above, in bold, directly above the picture.

  • Karen

    Hi Peter
I was on the wait list and have received a ton of emails re this event and I have tried to keep up with all the changes so excuse me if i have missed something. Anyway i cant see if it says any experience is neccessary? Also is there parking on site? Lastly how do you make payment? Thx!

    January 8, 2014

  • Dutch

Upon further reflection I've decided to open the event to all on a first pay first come basis with a total rsvp limit of 15. This way those that really want to attend don't need to wait for others that are still on the fence or won't be coming and just haven't changed their rsvp.

Please forgive the flip-flop but this is all fairly new to me and a real eye opener as to how these events need to be run.

    2 · January 8, 2014

    • Dutch

Thanks Davey. When you look at the attendees list do you not see paid and unpaid next to each name? Perhaps it's just for the organizer to see. If I separate the paid and the unpaid as waiting list I would need to change the rsvp limit each time someone pays and it would also deter new members from putting their names on the list thinking that there are too many waiting. I do have the ability to have members pay automatically when they rsvp. I thinks that's my best option going forward.

      January 8, 2014

    • Davey

I think only you can see it. The last thing I want is to make more work for you. As I said, I was certain you had a system. :)

      January 8, 2014

  • Dutch

    PLEASE NOTE:

If you were on the waiting list but are now on the yes rsvp list please make payment as described above asap.

If you are now on the waiting list but were one of the original members with a yes rsvp please read the description again, the email I sent you 2 weeks ago and the numerous comments below. Peter

      January 4, 2014

    • Linda

Nvmd. I reread...full payment. Let me know when you will accept mine and I will interact it to you

      1 · January 4, 2014

  • Doug W.

With over 500 members now, I see no reason why serious participants can't pay the FULL amount of a trip up front when they register. You always seem to have a waiting list, so if a member has a last minute problem, THEY can make arrangements with someone on the waiting list to take their place and pay the fee. There is NO WAY that you should be using your own money when trying to book with companies. It also makes it very difficult when you organize an activity, staffing and pricing based on 50 people and only have 20 show up. It ends up costing the rest of us extra. It doesn't really matter for a movie, but it does for this trip!
Give Peter a break people and put your money where your mouth is!

If there's ever a summer event like this in lake Ontario I'm interested. I tried this as a kid on vacation in the Caribbean, was a great experience.

    January 2, 2014

    • Doug W.

With 6'-8' visibility in Lake Ontario and thermoclines 30' down of 2*C, you would be very disappointed after diving in the Caribbean!

      January 2, 2014

  • walter

Believe it or not,I've never learned to swim but would like to try it Would that ok?

    December 7, 2013

    • Dutch

Hey Walter. I heard back from the scuba people and they say that you should know how to swim. I give you credit for wanting to do it.

      December 11, 2013

    • Annemarie

The lifesaving society continues to organize the crash course: "swim to survive". You don't learn the swim strokes, but if you would accidentally fall in the water you would know how to survive. They are doing this mostly in schools, but every now and then there is a course offered to the general public.

    December 8, 2013

    • Dutch

Hi Milad. Don't send me any money until a spot opens up. I've only received one payment so far from the 15 that rsvp'ed so id assume something will open up for you. Thx

Is this 30 including gear rental? And indoor or outdoor area for the dive ?

    December 7, 2013

    • Dutch

      All included in a pool.

      December 7, 2013

  • Doug W.

Over 70% of this planet is covered with water, so if you REALLY want to see some sights, you have to go underwater. I've done about 40 dives in the South Pacific and Caribbean, and the sights are truly spectacular. Like Peter's picture above, the colours get better and better the closer you get to the fish and corals. There are few gardens above sea level that can match the beauty of a nice coral reef. See them before they are gone - not kidding!
I won't be on this trip as I am already PADI and NAUI certified as a recreational diver (good to 100 feet / 30 m).

Grrr. I have a meeting that night. Oh well another time.
